Yami Gautam & Aditya Dhar on Expecting first Child
With the arrival of their first child, Yami Gautam and Aditya Dhar’s love story is entering a new chapter. The soon-to-be parents happily revealed their thrilling experience of learning of Yami’s pregnancy in a touching revelation.
Sharing a heartfelt moment in a Hindustan Times interview, Aditya Dhar expressed joy and emotions, emphasizing that this memory will be cherished for a lifetime. This marks their first exclusive interview as a couple, post their wedding and film collaboration. Aditya, the producer of the film ‘Article 370,’ mentioned that previous interactions were often with the director or promotional teams, making this personal moment special. Yami Gautam Dhar, his wife and actor, joined the conversation radiating happiness.

As she discussed her thoughts on the shocking revelation, Yami Gautam emphasized how unprepared people are for times like significant. When she learned that her sister was pregnant, for example, she was thrilled with happiness. She also stated that when someone in your family becomes pregnant, you feel glad for them. When she heard that she would soon become a mother, though, she said she was unable to hold back her happiness.

It’s not just the pregnant glow—their collaborative project, the political play, has been succeeding. Reviews have praised the film as significant, and its box office performance has been consistent. We are the best in the world. We were interested in movies because we thought that one day, if a movie came out, we would see it and fall in love. The Surgical Strike in Uri was the first instance of it, and now Article 370. This kind of response, which is typically seen on a single screen in multiplexes, suggests that our predecessors’ blessings may have contributed to this love rather than merely talent. Many individuals told us that this movie wasn’t very good because it was too technical and featured a lot of English. However, we’ve always thought that, particularly in our field, people tend to underestimate our audiences,” Dhar says.
Meanwhile, Gautam has received great praise for her performance as an intelligence officer. In its purest form, this is genuine validation. With all due respect, I have no knowledge of awards. To our hearing, the claps and hoots seem like music. She continues to eat snacks and says, “I’m sure the people who are criticizing don’t mean harm; it’s just a perspective. This has happened before with one of my films or my casting.
Aditya remembers the moment they both got to know about them expecting. They were shooting for Article 370, “We were in the hotel. Luckily, our action portions were done by then. It was a really happy moment, something I will remember for the rest of our lives. We were jumping with joy, and emotional. Now we can’t wait.” Yami chimes in, “You are never prepared for a moment like this. You only realise once you are in it. You get happy when it happens to your loved ones, like when my sister was pregnant. When it has happened to me, I can’t stop smiling. You forget everything, and then come back to reality to plan. It’s a very personal time, we are private people. We had to be cautious.”
The filmmaker had a panel of doctors available 24/7 while they wrapped up the shoot. “But never did I want to hold myself back. I wanted to have the same strength which my mom had when she was expecting. I am so lucky to have a life partner like Aditya, he has been a huge support. He’s my go to person so I reach out to him for pregnancy queries too. He always tries to answer it, and then one day told me ‘you realise I am not a doctor, right?,” she laughs.
It is of course a happy moment when a joint collaboration hits the bullseye. In Yami and Aditya’s case, they met on the sets of their first collab, Uri and started dating. The second time they did a collab on Article 370, they are en route to become parents.
ARE POLITICAL MOVIES AT RISK?
Yami has always chosen unusual movies, starting with her first feature Vicky Donor and continuing with Article 370. But acting in political films always carries the risk of being perceived as someone who tries to draw attention to themselves by taking on contentious roles, and if the movie deviates
But according to Yami, she was perfectly comfortable saying “yes” before. “Today it is easier to answer this,” she claims. I’m thinking of Yami who portrayed a stigmatized subject in her debut film, Vicky Donor. When I was still doing door-to-door auditions after the movie, I recall that people would inquire if I had ever been on camera or had worked on any films. Indeed, just shoot one, in my opinion. When they would inquire, I would explain. I chose to withhold my comment because I could still recall the response.
After that, I began to remark, “You’ll know it’s a good movie.” Fear alone has the power to impede your progress and prevent you from realizing your full creative potential. I usually like to follow my instincts. I signed this film knowing deep down why. I knew there would be arguments, of course.
Respect for each other
Proud to be Yami’s spouse, Aditya takes the time to quickly remove a stray hair off her forehead while she speaks. Aditya says bluntly, “You can ask our director as well; she is extraordinary,” after acknowledging that she prepared for the part thoroughly. I have spent the last five years informing her. Her journey shouldn’t have taken ten years; it ought to have begun much sooner. Had it been a young actor from the film industry who had a similar beginning as Vicky Donor, their career would have advanced significantly by now. It has been a long time and a lot of work for her to take ten years.
Yami fights hard to control her tears as Aditya finishes and sniffles, “People say it’s pregnancy hormones, I know how much control I need right now to conceal my emotions.”
Last but not least, Yami expressed her gratitude for the incredible emotional support she received from her husband during this transformative period.
