Sudha Murty, born on August 19, 1950, in Shiggaon, Karnataka, India, is recognized for her diverse contributions to literature, philanthropy, and social service. She holds an engineering degree from the B.V.B. College of Engineering and Technology, Hubli, where she achieved the distinction of becoming the first female engineer employed on the shop floor at Tata Engineering & Locomotive Co. Ltd.
Sudha Murty is married to N.R. Narayana Murty, the co-founder of Infosys, a prominent information technology company in India. Together, they constitute a formidable couple with influence extending beyond corporate realms. The couple is blessed with two children, Rohan and Akshata. Akshata Murty, their daughter, is married to Rishi Sunak, the Chancellor of the Exchequer in the United Kingdom.
Sudha Murty’s dedication to social causes is evident through her role as the chairperson of Infosys Foundation, leading it from its inception in December 1996 until her retirement in 2021. Under her guidance, the foundation initiated numerous projects to provide education and empower marginalized communities.
