The actress and model Poonam Pandey first startled social media by declaring her death and giving the reason as cervical cancer. She then disclosed, nevertheless, that her death was a staged event meant to increase awareness of cervical cancer. Many people are in shock over Poonam’s recent attention-grabbing action, in which she staged her own fictitious death to raise awareness of cervical cancer.
Not only has the fake news of Poonam Pandey’s passing shocked the public, but it has also made her admirers and celebrities angry. A day after her team announced that Poonam was “dead from cervical cancer at 32,” Poonam vehemently declared on Saturday that she is, in fact, “alive.” To shed light on the purpose of the false information, Poonam revealed that she did this action to increase awareness of cervical cancer.
A day after Poonam Pandey’s team announced her death from cervical cancer, several celebrities including Mini Mathur, Babil Khan, Bipasha Basu ,Karanvir Bohra, Sambhavna Seth, Kangana Ranaut, Mandira Bedi, and Arti Singh have all condemned the actress for her reappearance on social media. Poonam’s family had declared her dead on Friday, but on Saturday, she uploaded videos on social media claiming to be “alive.”
Sharing a snapshot of Poonam on Instagram and saying, “Disgusting… this is not awareness,” Arti Singh voiced her dissatisfaction.
I lost my mother when I was born coz of cancer. I lost my father coz of cancer…Just not acceptable: you are playing with everyone’s emotions. Shame and it’s shocking that people can stoop down to this level…”
In response to the post, Bipasha Basu remarked, “Appallingly pathetic behavior. The PR people behind this should be ashamed too, not just this person.” Tahira Kashyap shared on her Instagram Stories, “Experienced the lowest of lows today. Oscillating emotions between being triggered, angry, shocked, and disbelief. What are we becoming? How important is breaking news? At what cost? So put off by the cheap publicity stunt. Not naming just because the person doesn’t deserve any importance whatsoever.”
Late actor Irrfan Khan’s son, Babil Khan, expressed disappointment regarding Poonam Pandey’s ‘dead from cervical cancer’ stunt. In a recent post, he criticized Poonam for resorting to such tactics and emphasized the importance of spreading awareness without sensationalism. Angered by Poonam’s publicity stunt, Babil underscored the gravity of cancer awareness, discouraging its use for gimmicks. Having lost his father, the late actor Irrfan Khan, to cancer and a subsequent colon infection in April 2020, Babil urged people not to trivialize the seriousness of cancer-related issues.
He publicly shared his frustration on Instagram, stating, “I don’t know what the f** that was about Poonam Pandey’s demise, but it just feels wrong. I’m trying not to care, but it is making me feel really angry. Awareness can be spread, but faking statements of death should not be something that we rely upon to do so as individuals in a collective society.”
Also, Mandira Bedi posted on her Instagram Stories, saying, “More attention shouldn’t be paid to that stupid woman than what she currently receives. However, this was the most pitiful, cheap, and abhorrent form of publicity. This doesn’t even qualify in the pathetic realm of “any publicity is good publicity.” I don’t get the impression that she was acting in this way for any other reason than herself. It’s best to boycott her. #awful Put an end to the lowlife.
Mini Mathur expressed on her Instagram Stories, “This Poonam Pandey cervical cancer stunt is not just distasteful, tone-deaf, and insensitive… it also bases itself on zero research on the subject. Not to take away from the lack of awareness around it but a mere Google search will tell you that there are 8 stages to cervical cancer and an average of 5-10 year gestation period for it to reach its advanced stage.”
She added, “Shame on you Poonam Pandey. And shame on the team who thought up this sickening farce of a ‘campaign.’ Social media and influencers have dumbed down the discourse around absolutely everything. Anyone can be anything by mere projection and posturing. No body of work or qualification needed. This is a new low.”
Karanvir Bohra said in an interview with ETimes tv “She did spread awareness on cervical cancer, I’ll give her that,” however, she didn’t even consider the sentiments of her well-wishers, or the price.
During their time on the reality show Lock Upp, Karanvir and Poonam grew close.
On social media, Shruti Seth expressed her worries and shared her thoughts: “It’s impossible to be relevant no matter how far one goes. Many people who are vying for attention on the internet have seriously crossed the boundary. As a society, we need to really examine what it is that we so desperately lack that drives us to do whatever it takes to be noticed. We want so much validation online because we feel so unloved in our real lives. Kindly refrain from losing yourself to the point of no return before you ask yourself that question. Go make the necessary corrections once you have the courage to discover the solution.
Tara Sharma Saluja reacted to Shruti’s post, expressing her sentiments: “Really sad, shocking, and insensitive thing to do… Gullible me was feeling so sad for her and condoling yesterday. So many brave people are actually fighting the disease with dignity and grace. Prayers for all to be well. Lots of love.”
Sambhavna Seth FURIOUS At Poonam Pandey For Faking Death For Cancer Campaign: ‘Kal Ko Rape Awareness program hoga to aap kya karne wali ho? Shame on you.”
She also added in the video, “Jo vyakti kal marr chuka tha, aaj voh dobara se zinda ho gaya hai. Toh yeh ek cancer awareness ka program tha jiski awareness ke tehet aapko yeh PR activity karni padi. Main janna chahti hoon ki yeh kis kisam ki PR activity hai? Aapke PR ne aapko samjhaya nahi ki yeh nahi karna chahiye?”
The disclosure has sparked a wave of criticism and disbelief among internet users.
Expressing concern over her unconventional approach, one user remarked, “How shameless can someone be to stay in the limelight by doing stupid stuff. Poonam Pandey is the biggest fraud.”
Another user criticized her, stating, “This is the worst PR campaign ever. Such a sick mentality, playing with people’s emotions by faking death is not cool at all.”
Confusion Surrounding Poonam Pandey’s Alleged Death.
The confusion arose when Poonam Pandey’s media manager, Parul Chawla, confirmed her death on Friday. Social media platforms erupted with shock and condolences as the news spread rapidly. However, doubt emerged among netizens, with some questioning the suddenness of her demise, particularly since she had been active on social media just days before.
The skepticism grew due to the lack of any statement from Poonam’s family, leading to speculation that her death might be a publicity hoax.
