In the IPL 2024 clash between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Virat Kohli achieved a significant milestone as he showcased his batting prowess against the Rajasthan Royals bowlers. Kohli delivered a dominant performance, marking his highest score at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium in Jaipur during an IPL match.
This remarkable feat puts Kohli on track to become the first batter globally to amass 8,000 runs while playing for a single team. As one of the most prolific and consistent batsmen in the cricketing world, Kohli’s achievement underscores his exceptional talent and enduring impact in the realm of cricket.
In the IPL 2024 match between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Indian cricketing icon Virat Kohli achieved yet another remarkable milestone, solidifying his status as one of the premier batters in the tournament’s history. Kohli made history by becoming the first player to amass 7,500 runs in the IPL, adding another accolade to his illustrious career.
Notably, he is currently leading the batting charts in the IPL 2024 season, proudly wearing the coveted Orange Cap for his outstanding performance, exemplifying his consistency and prowess on the cricket field.
Kohli’s exceptional milestone was highlighted during RCB’s clash against Rajasthan Royals at the iconic Sawai Man Singh Stadium in Jaipur. Despite facing the RR bowlers on their home turf, Kohli displayed his trademark aggression and skill, registering his highest-ever score at the venue.
This noteworthy achievement further solidified his reputation as a dominant force in IPL cricket.
This latest feat adds to Kohli’s already impressive list of accomplishments in the IPL. He has previously been the first to reach milestones such as 6,000, 6,500, and 7,000 runs in the tournament, showcasing his unparalleled consistency and batting prowess.
With his exceptional performance, Kohli is well on his way to making history once again, aiming to become the first player globally to achieve the remarkable milestone of scoring 8,000 runs for a single team.
During the RR vs RCB match in IPL 2024, Kohli’s explosive batting display was a sight to behold. Opening RCB’s innings with determination and flair, he set the tone for his team’s innings. Supported by RCB captain Faf du Plessis, Kohli unleashed a flurry of boundaries and exquisite strokes, captivating fans with his masterful batting performance. His sensational half-century further underscored his dominance on the cricket field, solidifying his status as a cricketing icon and a formidable force in the IPL arena.
Virat Kohli showcased exceptional batting prowess and fearlessness against some of the world’s top pacers, delivering powerful boundaries with confidence. Despite a slow start in the initial four matches, Faf du Plessis found his rhythm on Saturday, contributing 44 runs before being dismissed by spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, giving Rajasthan Royals their first breakthrough.
In a strategic move, RCB promoted Glenn Maxwell with hopes of boosting the run rate in the final overs. However, Rajasthan’s pacer Nandre Burger bowled an impeccable yorker, dismissing Maxwell. Debutant Saurav Chauhan joined Virat Kohli at the crease, eager to make his mark in the IPL.
Virat Kohli’s exceptional performance propelled Royal Challengers Bangalore to a formidable total of 183/3 against Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2024 match in Jaipur. Kohli’s stellar innings included a sensational century, his 8th in the IPL, setting a new record. This century further solidified Kohli’s position as the leading centurion in IPL history.
Facing Rajasthan Royals, a team riding high with three consecutive wins in IPL 2024, Kohli’s century was a standout performance, marking the first three-figure score by a batter in the 17th season of the tournament. Kohli reached his century milestone off 67 deliveries, further cementing his legacy as one of the greatest batters in IPL history.
After being put to bat by the Royals, Kohli ended his innings with an undefeated 113 off 72 deliveries, leading Royal Challengers Bangalore to a score of 183/3. Even though Kohli scored a lot of runs throughout his innings, questions have once again been raised about his strike rate. It was the second time that Kohli had played the entire innings when RCB was leading by wickets but was unable to go close to 200. Notably, in the 19th over of Kohli’s 98th run, RCB scored just four runs without any boundaries.
Off 67 balls, Kohli’s century is his slowest in IPL history and ties Manish Pandey’s 2009 67-ball century for the slowest century ever. Kohli is the only player in the top five run scorers’ list with a strike rate below 150, despite amassing 316 runs at an excellent average of 105.33 in five games this season.
Kohli hit four sixes and twelve fours in his inning. Despite his cautious start, he picked up speed by hitting a pair of sixes against the pacers. But after spinners like Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal entered the attack, he found it difficult to draw boundaries.
Kohli, however, attributed the lower strike rate to challenging pitch conditions, noting that the ball was not coming onto the bat as expected. Initially, he and captain Faf du Plessis aimed for a target of over 190 runs. However, upon realizing the pitch’s sluggishness, they adjusted their strategy. Kohli explained, “The wicket looks quite different from up there. It feels like it’s flat. But as soon as you see, the ball starts holding up, things change quickly.
Our target was 190-plus in the beginning. But when we saw the slowness of the pitch, me and Faf decided that one of us have to bat through the innings to give us the push at the end. We got 183, which I believe is a good total,” during the mid-innings break in an interview with the broadcasters.
Analyzing his performance, Kohli’s strike rate against pacers stood at 171.79, while against spinners, it dropped to 139. He mentioned his struggle to generate power shots against spinners due to the ball’s low trajectory. “It’s just experience and maturity of playing the conditions.
Even if there’s dew, the surface is rough and dry, won’t be easy for the batters. I couldn’t get under the ball against Ashwin and Chahal. Couldn’t slog towards mid-wicket, so had to target straight down the ground,” Kohli elaborated, highlighting the challenges posed by the conditions.
