“Fighter,” the cinematic collaboration between Deepika Padukone and Hrithik Roshan, made its theatrical debut on January 25. Despite an impressive start, the movie faced challenges at the box office, especially after Day 5, experiencing a noticeable decline that persisted until Day 8, which recorded the lowest numbers since its release. According to Sacnilk, the film garnered only Rs 5.75 crore on its second Thursday, contributing to a cumulative box office collection of Rs 146.25 crore in India. However, there are expectations that it will cross the Rs 150 crore mark on Day 9.
On a global scale, “Fighter” swiftly entered the Rs 250 crore club within the first seven days of its release and is now aspiring to reach the significant milestone of Rs 300 crore. In comparison to Hrithik Roshan’s previous blockbuster, “War,” and Siddharth Anand’s “Pathaan,” the aerial drama falls short in terms of box office numbers.
The film’s narrative revolves around Air Force Pilots responding to terrorist attacks by Pakistan. Despite receiving mixed reviews, with Outlook India acknowledging it as a significant aerial drama, “Fighter” offers a unique cinematic experience with its breathtaking aerial action sequences and the impressive chemistry between Hrithik and Deepika, marking their first collaboration.
Released just a day before Republic Day, the film witnessed a considerable decline in collections over the past four days. On Day 8, it managed to collect ₹146.25 crore net in India during its eight-day run in theatres. Early estimates suggest a gross collection of ₹168.75 crore in India, with overseas earnings totaling ₹72 crore, resulting in a worldwide collection of ₹240.75 crore.
Siddharth Anand directs the film, with Hrithik Roshan portraying Squadron Leader Shamsher Pathania, known as Patty, and Deepika Padukone taking on the role of Squadron Leader Minal Rathore, aka Minni. Anil Kapoor appears as Group Captain Rakesh Jai Singh, known as Rocky. The storyline focuses on the Balakot airstrike conducted by the Indian Armed Forces in response to a terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir.
Produced by Viacom18 Studios in collaboration with Marflix Pictures, the film also features Karan Singh Grover and Akshay Oberoi in significant roles. For Deepika Padukone, “Fighter” marks her third collaboration with director Siddharth Anand, following “Bachna Ae Haseeno” (2008) and the blockbuster “Pathaan” (2023). Additionally, it marks the first on-screen collaboration between Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone, adding to the anticipation and appeal of this cinematic venture.
