On Monday, it was announced that the BJP will contest 17 seats in Bihar, while Chief Minister Nitish Kumar-led JD(U) will contest 16 seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The key seats where the BJP will field candidates include Pashchim Champaran, Purvi Champaran, Aurangabad, Madhubani, Darbhanga, Muzaffarpur, Maharajganj, Saran, Begusarai, Nawada, Patna Sahib, Patliputra, Aara, Buxar, and Sasaram.
On the other hand, JD(U) will contest on the Valmikinagar, Sitamadhi, Jhanjharpur, Supaul, Kishanganj, Katihar, Purnia, Madhepura, Gopalganj, Siwan, Bhagalpur, Banka, Munger, Nalanda, Jehanabad, and Sheohar seats.
BJP To Contest 17 Seats In State, JD(U) 16, LJP (RV)
At a press conference on Monday night at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi, Vinod Tawde, the BJP’s election in-charge for Bihar, declared that the JD(U), led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, would contest 16 seats in the finalized seat-sharing arrangements for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Bihar, one fewer than the previous time.
The BJP will compete for 17 seats in the interim. Chirag Paswan emerged as the biggest winner on Monday with his Lok Janshakti Party (LJP-Ram Vilas) gaining five seats, including the coveted Hajipur seat. However, Chirag’s uncle, Union Minister Pashupati Kumar Paras, leads the Rashtriya LJP, which was not allocated any seats.

Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) led by Upendra Kushwaha and Hindustani Awam Morcha-Secular (HAM-S) led by former chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi have been given the two remaining seats in Bihar, which sends forty members to the Lok Sabha.
Significantly, the BJP has surpassed JD(U) in seats won in Bihar for the first time, suggesting a reevaluation of their relationship since their recent merger.
“BJP will run for 17 of the 40 seats available, while JD(U) will go for 16. Leaders of the state’s alliance partners were present at the news conference, when Tawde said that the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) would run for five seats.
The BJP and JD(U) each had 17 candidates in the 2019 elections, while the united Lok Janshakti Party—led by former Union minister Ram Vilas Paswan—only fielded six candidates.
NDA’s Bihar Seat-Sharing: BJP Secures 17, JD(U) 16, LJP 5
In the latest seat-sharing arrangement for Bihar, NDA allocates 17 seats to BJP, 16 to JD(U), and 5 to LJP. Additionally, HAM and RLP each receive 1 seat. The upcoming elections, spanning seven phases from April 19 to June 1, will witness Mahagathbandhan led by RJD & INC. In the previous election, NDA emerged victorious with 39 out of 40 seats.
