Leading up to the IPL 2024 season, there were widespread speculations regarding Virat’s prospects of securing a spot in India’s squad for the T20 World Cup scheduled later this year. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar was reportedly keeping a close watch on the performance of the former Indian captain, analyzing his gameplay and consistency as a pivotal factor in the selection process.

In an interview with IANS, a BCCI official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, remarked that Virat, despite returning from a prolonged break, is currently performing well on the field. The official further emphasized that the selection process for the national team is not influenced by social media memes, highlighting the importance of evaluating players based on their on-field contributions and consistency.

The T20 World Cup 2024 is set to commence from June 1 in West Indies and USA, immediately following the culmination of the IPL 2024 season. Team India finds itself in Group A, where it will contend against Pakistan.
